Thank-you for 10 years!

It was 10 years ago, April 1, 2006 to be exact, that I got the keys for 180 Avenue Rd. With much energy & enthusiasm I was hell-bent to bring Toronto the best selection of jaw dropping vintage and luxury goods. After 7 days of renovations, The Cat’s Meow was ready to swing open it’s doors for business, on April 8, 2006.

↑The evening before the grand opening.(Pardon the dye job...)

My goal is, and has always been, to provide you with the most well curated inventory in a comfortably chic environment. I have the best customers, consignors and staff!  Throughout the years you’ve made The Cat’s Meow what it is today, and for that I am endlessly thankful!

First day open.

Arthur and I are here to help!

This Saturday (April 2, 10-5pm) we will be celebrating with a Tax-Free Sale! Everything in store including our already marked down items in the sale room will be tax-free for you (some exceptions apply, but not many!) AND a delicious cake will be served around noon! Museum Couture in the window, sale, cake, party?! It will be fun, so please join us-we’d love to see you.

A very special On Display!

We have rolled out the red carpet, literally, for our big 10th year anniversary window! We are so excited to show you some couture pieces from our personal collection. So if you’re coming this Saturday to our party (from 10-5) you will get an exclusive peek at 2 never before exhibited gowns which showcase fashion’s golden era. And if you can’t make it on Saturday, then please click to view the image below, we promise you won’t regret it!  We have entitled this window ‘Possible Conversations’.

The left couture gown is by the “Master”, Cristobal Balenciaga. It is constructed with a cream silk jacquard fabric featuring a chrysanthemum design and long crystal bead fringe sleeves.  This piece hails from the winter 1961 collection and is documented in the fashion memoir ‘Balenciaga’ by Marie-Andrée Jouve.

The right gown is a 1952 Christian Dior couture gown. (It has thin straps but is short in the torso so we tucked them in for display) It is made of a cream cotton organza and encrusted with gold beaded ‘bursts’. Tiny cotton flowers and prong set crystals are also hand applied throughout. Truly a dream!

Don’t know if you noticed or not, but we skipped out on doing a post last week. Sorries… Things have been a little crazy around the Meow Meow lately as we are preparing for our big 10 year anniversary next week. On Saturday, April 2nd we will be celebrating this landmark with a party at the shop. There will be some special goodies and surprises in store (literally) so mark it on your calendar and c’mon out to celebrate with us! In the meanwhile, why don’t you check out our new window display ↓

I don’t mean to brag but, I’ve seen many beautiful garments and textiles over the past 15 years in this biz. It’s like fuel for me, or perhaps it’s more equivalent to an addiction? I literally get a high when an item comes into the shop that is beyond gorgeous. This was the case in point when the light chartreuse gown (below) was first introduced to me. It really has all the bells and whistles; stunning colour, great Parisian label, fantastic beading and clean crisp lines. And the cherry on the cake; it has pockets to keep your pose game strong with. We flanked this gem with two petal pink silk chiffon gowns, more details below pic↓
